While our proficiency in renovations is well-established, we also collaborate seamlessly with builders on new home builds.
Do you offer a warranty?
Absolutely! Southern Stars Custom Woodwork provides a comprehensive five year warranty from the original date of purchase that all our wood products will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use. All drawer slides and door hinges carry a full lifetime warranty under normal use for the life of the product. Read our Warranty Policy Here!
Can we see our new kitchen before installation?
Absolutely! We encourage clients to witness the craftsmanship firsthand by arranging visits to our workshop, allowing you to observe your bespoke cabinetry taking shape before installation. Additionally, to keep you updated throughout the process, we provide frequent photo updates via text or email, ensuring you’re involved at every stage of your cabinetry’s creation.
When do I pay?
To initiate your project, we request a fifty percent deposit before finalizing designs and commencing production, accompanied by a comprehensive contract review. Payment methods include cash, cheque, or e-transfer for your convenience. Upon the project’s completion, the final payment is due, ensuring a seamless and transparent payment process aligned with the project timeline.
Why pick appliances first?
Appliance choices are critical in the design process, as the kitchen is laid out around their dimensions. In order to produce accurate drawings for your review, the appliance specifications must be supplied, so that the cabinetry fits precisely.
Do you do commercial work?
Certainly! Alongside our expertise in residential custom cabinetry, we extend our services to cater specifically to commercial spaces. From crafting bespoke reception desks that make a lasting first impression to designing functional display shelving and shop counters, our team specializes in creating tailored cabinetry solutions that elevate the functionality and aesthetic appeal of commercial environments.
How do we prepare for our installation?
It can take several days for your project installation. We recommend that you remove any artwork or breakable items that might be damaged, and you can cover the path to the work area to protect your floor (or we can). You should also keep in mind if we are replacing a kitchen that you won’t be able to cook, so you should make alternate arrangements for food.
Who removes my old cabinets?
While the homeowner or contractor can handle the removal of old cabinets, we offer a convenient service to take care of this task for you. Our team ensures a hassle-free process by handling the removal and responsible disposal of all materials, meticulously separating and recycling components, providing an eco-conscious approach to cabinetry replacements.
Will I get hairline cracks in my painted cabinetry?
Hairline cracks are unavoidable in painted wood cabinets, they occur between stiles and rails on the doors. The pieces expand and contract at different rates with changes in humidity, and wood movement is much more pronounced across the grain than with it.
All solid wood behaves this way, although cracks are most noticeable on light-colored cabinets. We recommend a 40-50% humidity in your house to minimize contraction and expansion.
If the aesthetics of hairline cracks are a concern, we recommend MDF painted doors. MDF is more stable and more resistant to humidity variations so is less likely to crack.
