The project involved creating a custom entryway display cabinet with specific design features tailored to meet the client’s needs for both functionality and aesthetic integration. Key elements included a furniture base, slab fronts with beveled edges, and interior configurations optimized for storage versatility.
Client’s Pain Points:
The client sought a solution that seamlessly integrated into their entryway while addressing storage challenges for kitchen overflow items, mitts, gloves, and cookbooks. They required a design that complemented their existing kitchen style and provided efficient organization without compromising on visual appeal.
How the Project Was Successfully Completed:
To bring the client’s vision to life, we followed a careful, collaborative process that balanced design aesthetics, technical precision, and functional requirements. The execution of the project focused on customization, seamless integration with the existing interior, and delivering quality craftsmanship at every step.
Key elements of the process included:
- Tailored Cabinet Design
The cabinet was designed to fit the entryway alcove perfectly, with a 2” x ½” frame extending around the top and sides. This created a framed, built-in appearance while remaining proud of the wall like a traditional face frame, adding depth and definition. - Custom Drawer Layout
Two banks of three extra-deep drawers (26″ deep) were constructed to maximize storage capacity. The drawer configuration followed a 1/3 – 2/3 split, with three lower drawers and two upper open shelving sections, ideal for mitts, gloves, kitchen overflow, placemats, and more. - Beveled Slab Fronts and Flush Finishing
We used slab fronts with a subtle beveled edge for a modern yet detailed look. The drawer fronts were flushed with surrounding fillers and the face frame to maintain a clean and seamless finish. - Premium Interior Materials
While the final choice of materials was pending, options included hard rock maple cabinetry with Baltic birch drawers—both selected for their durability and clean aesthetic. Samples were provided to the client to ensure the best fit for their needs. - Integrated Lighting with Accessibility in Mind
Each open shelf unit featured integrated backlighting. Power was routed to the back of the drawer unit with an accessible switch for the LED driver and lights, making future maintenance or light replacement simple and user-friendly. - Cohesive Aesthetic and Hardware Coordination
The entire cabinet was finished in a matte white color, precisely matched to the existing trim using a wet paint sample. Hardware was coordinated in a brushed nickel finish, selected to complement but not exactly replicate the kitchen’s style, allowing the unit to stand on its own while still belonging. - Precision Installation and Finishing Details
The ¾” x 3 ½” furniture base was designed to run across the front of the unit and tie seamlessly into the adjacent walls, with no step or visual interruption. The upper shelving was built to 14” depth, specifically tailored for cookbooks and display items.
This detailed approach, from material selection to lighting integration, ensured that the final product was not only visually cohesive with the rest of the home but also delivered exceptional practicality and lasting value.
